There are many different types of lip piercing, including labret, nostril, and earlobe piercings.
A labret piercing involves the insertion of an ornament (laboratory study) through the nostril. In this piercing, a piece of jewellery is inserted through the nostril and into the fleshy part of the nostril. Nose piercing involves inserting the jewellery through the nostril into the fleshy part of the nose. Earlobe piercing involves inserting the labret stud through the fleshy part of the ear, and down into the fleshy part of the nostril.
Labrets, nostrils, and earlobes are some of the more popular types of piercing that are available. There are also lip piercings. Labret and nostril piercings are more common than lip piercing because of the pain involved with lip piercings. However, lip piercing is one of the most common forms of piercing that people get done in Australia.
Labrets, or earrings, can be either single or double labeled. Single labrets are smaller and are usually found on women, whereas double labels are typically worn by men.
In this type of piercing, a small piece of jewellery is inserted through the nostril and into the fleshy part of the nostril. This labret stud normally has an open bottom to allow the piercing material to freely move around inside the nostril. A single labret is usually adorned with stones to make it look elegant. On the other hand, double labeled earrings often have an elaborate patterned design on each side.
Nose piercing refers to inserting the label into the fleshy part of the nostril. This is one of the popular lip piercing types, as it looks great and is easy to conceal. When a person gets a labret piercing, they may opt to have them in either the left or right nostril. This piercing can be placed through the soft tissue of the nose and through the muscle layer of the nostril.
Earlobe piercing, also called ear piercing, involves inserting the label into the ear lobe. People usually wear these types of earrings on their ears, around the base of the skull, between the first two ear lobes, or on top of the head.
Earlobe piercing is not considered painful, but some people will opt to get pierced through the soft tissue of their ear lobe instead of the actual lobe.
If this method is chosen, it is advisable to choose a piercing that is designed to fit into the lobe securely so as not to cause further pain or infection to the ear. Earlobe piercings are typically made of metal or non-slip materials. Some people also opt to get them through a thin flap of skin that runs around the outside of the ear and over the lobe to prevent discomfort during piercing.
Nostril piercings are generally less common than labrets and earlobe piercings, and are usually more popular with men. However, many women get them too. The labret stud is inserted into the skin just behind the uppermost part of the eye and is a little different than the label in that it is a larger size. The labret stud usually includes a small amount of jewellery, such as a pendant or a small necklace, which is then worn on one side of the nostril.
The earlobe piercings, in general, do not usually cause pain, although some people still feel some pain from the earlobe piercing when they remove the earrings. If you have had an ear piercing done recently, it is important to wait at least 48 hours before wearing jewelry. It is also important not to try to put in more jewellery into the hole, as doing so will only cause more pain. The labrets can also be a little uncomfortable, particularly if you have an enlarged label, so it is recommended that you wear earplugs if possible when doing your earlobe piercings.
